How it works
Running watts are the total of everything you tick. Some appliances need a burst of extra power to start, so starting watts are that total plus the single biggest starting figure. A generator needs to cover both numbers.
The appliance figures are typical values from Champion Power Equipment’s wattage chart, and the generator figures are each manufacturer’s published specs. Your own appliances may use more or less, so check the label on each one. It’s sensible to leave some headroom.
Safety: never run a fuel generator indoors or in a garage, and have a licensed electrician install a transfer switch before connecting any generator to your home’s wiring.
